A Brief Reflection of Fred Fest 2025

Ah, another Fred Fest has come and gone, and with it goes the graduating class of 2025. I hope they had a great last Fred Fest.

I’m writing this on a Sunday, meaning that it’s time to reflect on this year’s Fred Fest. I’m here to talk about my favorite and least favorite things I witnessed this weekend.

The Weather

It totally ruined the vibes for this weekend. Especially on Saturday. I know that Fred Fest stops for nothing and whatever, but honestly I really didn’t feel like going to Canada Way when it was raining.

There was also puddles everywhere, which was not fun for the walk back. AND THE WORMS.

Big fat fat FAT worms on the ground. Everywhere. It was honestly really scary.

Saturday was also way to cold for my liking. It was honestly pretty sad.

The Caveman

This was genuinely the scariest fucking thing that had ever happened to me in my life.

So there’s this guy who dresses up for every Fred Fest apparently, and I think he said that last year he was a ninja and this year he was a, you guessed it, Caveman.

He came up to me and my friends and asked us if we wanted a picture with him. Like he was supposed to be a celebrity.

But, whatever, I took a picture of my friends with him, and we thought that would be the end of it. But of course it wasn’t.

He picked my friend up even though all of us were telling him that he wasn’t into it. And the worst part of all of that is the fact that I didn’t even get a picture of it.

He was also hooting and hollering and a car that drove by, and we thought that was going to get rid of him, but then he came back.

So, yeah, kind of traumatic, but whatever. Let’s talk about the fun parts.

Seeing everyone I know

I don’t think I’ve ever felt more loved in my life than before seeing basically everyone that I know at Fred Fest. I had conversations with people I have literally never talked to before in my life, but knew just because of classes or other circumstances.

It was also really fun to spot everyone as I walked from one end of Canadaway to the other. It felt like a game of Where’s Waldo? but with students from the Comms department.

I’m glad that I didn’t see any of my enemies at Fred Fest. There’s always next year.

Crosby’s pizza

Why was the one slice of Crosby’s pepperoni pizza that I ate the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life? I couldn’t tell you, but it did change me for the better.

In that moment, I realized that this is what Fred Fest is all about: the little things. A slice of Crosby’s pizza. A starry. It can be so beautiful.

There is art everywhere for those with the eyes to see it or whatever, like at Fred Fest!

I do hope that the weather is nicer next year, and that The Caveman does not make a return.
